This study dealt with revealing the extent of the legitimacy of the use of force by Palestinian police officers in confronting illegal gatherings and riots, in light of the reasons that prompt individuals to engage in these practices. It also aimed to clarify the legal basis for the use of force or firearms in confronting illegal gatherings and riots, By Palestinian police officers, In dealing with the issue, it relied on the legal texts in effect in the Jordanian Penal Code in force in the West Bank, as well as the decree law regarding the Palestinian police. The study concluded that illegal gatherings and riots are committed by individuals as a result of a group of reasons, most of which result from the political, economic and social system followed within the state. Therefore, the Palestinian legislator authorized police officers to use force to the extent necessary to avert the danger posed to them and to others as a result of illegal gatherings and riots, and allowed them to use force when it became the only means after all other means had been exhausted.
