Abstract

The Conflict Transformation approach offers an alternative vision of peace compared to the traditional Conflict Resolution model that dominates peace studies. This alternative perspective is based on a set of principles that view conflict itself as an opportunity to work toward peace. In this context, it relies on reconciliation as a cornerstone for transforming conflict into an environment conducive to peace and equality.

In contrast to the Conflict Resolution approach, which emphasizes the role of power dynamics and political will in making peace, the Transformative Approach seeks to bring about change in the social, economic, and cultural environments that fuel hostility and conflict. This has led to its classification as a holistic and reformative method.

However, the Transformative Approach faces academic criticism, most notably the argument that it does not present a realistic framework for ending conflicts. This is due to its reliance on the notion of comprehensive change in conflict environments and the absence of a time-bound plan with measurable outcomes.
