Abstract
The study aimed to examine the image of prisoners in the caricature discourse by monitoring caricatures that embody the sufferings of prisoners in occupation jails. The study unveiled the common issues related to prisoners. For example, child prisoners, force-feeding of prisoners on hunger strikes, administrative detention, medical neglect, and family visits. The study also uncovered the issues of suffering women prisoners, COVID-19, the battle of the empty stomach, and the tunnel of freedom. The researcher used the sémiological analysis approach to analyse a purposive sample of caricature drawings so as to show the context of connotations, its function, directions, and the real motives behind the caricature. The study concluded that caricature is a way to reveal the sufferings of prisoners in jails. This led to keeping pace with events related to the issue of prisoners, far from the routine media tradition, which played a prominent role in changing the direction of public opinion. The study recommended the need to focus on caricature discourse in raising political, national, and social issues. This comes through devoting enough room for caricature art on websites and social media. In addition, there should be a place for caricature drawings in museums and exhibitions.
